Gyan and I reach the big rock at Drakpochen (4139m) around 14:00, expecting our crew and the local Nyalam yak herders and yaks to already be there so we could continue on to Shingdip. Gyan and I waited until almost 17:00 for them to arrive and had to stay at Drakpochen for the night. My Tibetan guide explained that the yak herders did not show up at Nyalam until 3 hours late. When I explained through my Tibetan guide that I wanted to do direct to Advanced Base Camp the next day, I understood what the tardy yak herders were up to when they demanded additional payment to have such a long day. I was stuck. I paid the extra money.
